Our Guide to Spring Cleaning
April 19, 2022
The spring season has been with us for a few weeks now, and if you’ve found yourself putting off your spring cleaning checklist, you’re definitely not alone. Sometimes, it can be tough to get motivated, and it’s difficult to know exactly where you should begin. That’s why our team at Elliott Homes has put together some great tips to help you get out of the rut you may have found yourself in during your winter months at home.
Organize your space
Before you get too deep into your cleaning routine it’s best to take the time to organize each room in your home. Take a moment to clean out any clothes that haven’t seen the light of day in months, toys that haven’t been used in years and the inevitable kitchen drawer that has been filled with too many tupperware containers to count. Clearing out the clutter and giving everything a proper place within your home will make it that much easier when it comes time to start cleaning.
At Elliott Homes, we love giving back to the communities we build in, and spring cleaning gives you the perfect opportunity to visit your local donation centers to drop off any items you’ve found throughout your home and start off the spring season on the right foot.
Focus on the little things
There are moments when we say we’re going to deep clean our home and we inevitably end up washing the dishes, doing laundry and perhaps vacuuming a room or two before calling it quits. This spring is the perfect time to really dig into the smaller items that we may not necessarily think of cleaning on a regular basis.
In your bedrooms, cleaning the bed sheets is a common occurrence, but what about your mattress? Add the upholstery brush attachment to your vacuum cleaner and easily clean off the top, bottom and sides or your mattress before your sheets are done. To freshen it up even more, sprinkle some baking powder onto the mattress and let it sit for about 30 minutes before vacuuming it away.
With dust an inevitable part of home life, your ceiling fans are another area that could always use a little extra TLC. Take an old pillowcase, spray the inside with a cleaning solution and slip it over each blade in order to easily wipe away the dust without making an additional mess.
The bathroom always has a few places we’d rather not clean, but you’ll always feel better when you do. Spend a little extra time scrubbing in-between your shower tiles and the harder to reach areas like your toilet or freestanding bathtub, and you can rest assured that your bathroom will be sparkling when you’re done.
Spruce up your outdoor space
Spring cleaning also offers the ideal time for you to get your outdoor space ready for patio season. When the spring showers have subsided for a moment, you’ll have the perfect opportunity to clean out the grill for backyard barbeques, freshen up your outdoor furniture with your own personal style and add in some additional greenery to give your outdoor space a whole new look.
